FORTNITE SEASON 9 REVIEW

The future is here, and yet Fortnite is getting old. This is Season 9.

THE BASICS

Here's the Season 9 mini map:

Season 9 hasn't changed as many POIs when compared to the past couple of seasons, however there are still notable changes like the futuristic Neo Tilted and Mega Mall and the robot-building-base-volcano-place Pressure Plant.

The map changes were alright overall, but I don't think the future locations really live up to those that came before them. I mean, Tilted and Retail were really, really great places to drop and they're not exactly easy to top. But these are good for what they are.

Here's Season 9's loot pool:

Season 9 has made a ton of interesting loot pool changes. At the start of the season the Pump Shotgun was vaulted for the first time; replaced by the Combat Shotgun. Throughout the season there have been a lot of interesting weapons and items, from the really cool Tactical Assault Rifle and game-inverting Storm Flip, to the not-so-great Drum Shotgun and Proximity Grenade Launcher.

There have certainly been ups and downs throughout the season with the loot pool, and by the end of the season it certainly feels a little bloated, but there have been some really great additions throughout.

THE GAMEPLAY

Season 9 introduced some interesting gameplay quirks like the Slipstreams, which allow you to glide around the map at high speeds, and Air Vents that push you up into the air. There are also Fortbyte puzzle pieces, which... weren't so good. Fine stuff overall, but a new vehicle would've been nice.

THE COSMETICS

Season 9 brought us some cool new skins, but in my opinion this Battle Pass was the worst yet. However the Item Shop has brought us a few new bangers, like Sandstorm, the Banner Brigade, Mecha Team Leader and Breakpoint.

THE EVENT

Season 9's live event is the best yet. It had an awesome build-up with the destruction of Polar Peak and the monster in the waters. Then the event happened and there was an incredible music track accompanied by a very well choreographed fight between a big monster (that was previously in Polar Peak) and a big robot suit (piloted by secret skin Singularity) over a mystical sphere in Loot Lake.

Doesn't make much sense when I write it out like that, but it is really epic and I'm sure the story threads will come together soon and make it all make sense.

CONCLUSION

Season 9 has been a good season overall, but... I barely played it. I think Fortnite is beginning to feel stale, even though they're going bigger and bolder every season. The game really needs a massive shake-up soon, or else people will feel bored and move to other games.

Even Minecraft has seen a resurgence this year, so who knows what Fortnite will do to combat this, along with other threats like Apex Legends and the increasing internet hatred towards the game.

SEASON RATING: 6/10

Let's just hope it isn't too late for this fun little game.
