FORTNITE SEASON 7 REVIEW

Fortnite Season 7 has been a wild ride. It's had its ups and downs, but overall has been a good experience. Here's my review.

THE BASICS

Here's the Season 7 mini map:

This season has some insane map changes, with the addition of the game's second biome, a great big iceberg snow biome. Greasy Grove and Flush Factory have been decimated and Shifty Shafts and the Yonder Yard unnamed POI barely survive.

This new biome brings Polar Peak, a big frozen castle, Happy Hamlet, a nice little village, Frosty Flights, an expedition base, along with a ton of unnamed POIs. While I miss Greasy, these new POIs (bar maybe Frosty Flights) are all great additions to the map and I enjoy dropping at them.

Here's Season 7's loot pool:

Wow, Season 7 has been very hit or miss. Firstly, there was the Infinity Blade (yikes), a mythic sword that absolutely shreds through health bars. Then there's the Presents!, a nice christmas item that gives legendary loot. Following on is a string of weapons and items ranging from pointless to bad to awful, like the Boom Box, Suppressed Sniper Rifle, Scoped Revolver and Bottle Rockets. Not a great season for loot.

THE GAMEPLAY

Season 7 brought the Stormwing Planes, which upon release were super OP and allowed people to just plough through structures and players with ease. They've since been nerfed multiple times, and honestly I kinda liked them anyway even if they were bad for the game. Then there's the Driftboard, which is honestly the best vehicle the game has ever had - just a shame it took until the end of the season to get it, thanks to delays.

THE COSMETICS

Season 7 sure did bring things, and stuff. There's Waypoint, Fishstick and Onesie, which are all pretty cool skins. Oh, and there's the sick tier 100 The Ice King - the first tier 100 I've ever unlocked. Go me!

THE EVENT

Season 7's event featured The Ice King, who.. covered the map in snow.. and brought back the zombies. That's... that's it. Yeah this was bad. We've had the zombies before in Season 6, and we've had the fully snowy map on Christmas Day. So, I guess it happened.

There was also the first ever in-game concert featuring Marshmello. This event was so sick and it was really cool to hear these great songs live in the game, and dance along with the man himself.

CREATIVE MODE

This season introduced us to Creative Mode. I played its exclusive release by buying the Battle Pass and I think this mode has huge potential. You can through down structures from the Battle Royale map, use weapons and items from across the game's history, and even create games using special devices. It's a really cool concept and they update it weekly, so my hopes are certainly high.

Creative also had The Block, which had player-made creations appear as limited time POIs on the battle royale map (replacing Risky Reels unfortunately). Great feature and I'm glad Epic Games is supporting this mode and the community that could come from it.

CONCLUSION

Season 7 was a very rocky season, and I think this will be the first one to be truly divisive for people going forward. It certainly had potential and Creative is great, but features like the Infinity Blade and Boom Box have dragged it down somewhat.

SEASON RATING: 5/10

Well, time for Season 8. Yargh!
