FORTNITE CHAPTER 2 REVIEW

Fortnite has completely reset with the new Chapter 2 update. This season was five months long, but it was certainly an interesting one. Let's enter a new era.

Oh, and the Fortnite reviews have a new format! New chapter, new blogs.

CHAPTER 2: THE BASICS

Here is the Chapter 2 - Season 1 map:

For the first time, we have a new map in Fortnite! Chapter 2 has brought an entirely new island with several new named POIs and dozens of landmarks (previously known as unnamed POIs). My personal favourite POIs are Steamy Stacks, Weeping Woods, Lazy Lake and the returning Retail Row. My favourite landmarks are the returning and remixed Risky Reels and the new Eye Land middle island.

The Chapter 2 map is a really refreshing change for the game, though I think I'll miss the original map. This really is a new era.

Starting with C2S1 I'll be only showing the initial loot pools from release, rather than what was added throughout the season. With that said, here's the base loot pool:

Chapter 2 has given the eight returning weapons and six returning items brand new renders and updated in-game models. The high-tier Burst Assault Rifle, Pistol, Bolt-Action Sniper Rifle and Rocket Launcher all even have brand new models. There are also new healing fish items, and the two-slot-taking Bandage Bazooka.

Chapter 2 Season 1's loot pool is pretty basic, but it was fun for the first few months. Unfortunately the length of the season has made the loot begin to feel stale and repetitive, with only the Heavy Assault Rifle and Launch Pad returning later, and only one new gun - the Harpoon Gun.

CHAPTER 2: GAMEPLAY

We can finally swim!

That's it. That's all I've got to say. Swimming is a new mechanic that has massively changed the way you get around the map.

Oh, and there's also Motorboats, the Carrying and Yeeting of knocked players, Upgrading and Sidegrading of weapons and probably more features I'm forgetting. Great season for innovation, seriously.

CHAPTER 2: COSMETICS

Chapter 2's cosmetics certainly feel quite different to those from Chapter 1. There's a lot less recolours/reskins and more original skins with different body shapes and unique designs. My personal favourites are the Battle Pass' Remedy vs Toxin, the Darkfire bundle skins (Molten Omen, Dark Power Chord & Shadow Ark), the Polar Legends bundle skins (The Devourer, Frozen Fishstick & Frozen Nog Ops) and the Item Shop's Autumn Queen.

CHAPTER 2: EVENT

We didn't have a story live event this season, for the first time since, what, Season 3? Weird. And no, the Star Wars Live at Risky Reels event does not count because 1. it was a collab, and 2. it was bad.

To fill the void I've decided to list off my favourite events from Chapter 1, so here ya go:

  1. The End (Season X)

  2. The Final Showdown (Season 9)

  3. The Unvaulting (Season 8)

  4. The Butterfly Event (Season 6)

  5. The Rocket Launch (Season 4)

CONCLUSION

Chapter 2 has been an interesting reset for the game. Overall I liked it, but the season's length made me feel really bored towards the end - like, I'm completely burnt out. I don't even know if I'll play Season 2 much, but I wanted to write this review regardless.

SEASON RATING: 7/10

Well, there you have it. Interesting start to Fortnite's second game. Peace out.
